Albert George Brown, prolific outdoor sportswriter in southeastern Wisconsin, lifelong hunter and fisherman, died on January 16 at his home in Ixonia.  He was 84.    Born on March 15, 1931 to Albert and Alvira Brown of Milwaukee, Brown grew up in Wauwatosa, Milwaukee and Oconomowoc and spent summers at the family farm in Fall River.  At age 15, he worked as a skate boy at Silver Lake Beach Roller Rink where he was an accomplished roller skater and was paid in tips.  He worked on a farm during his early high school years, then, as the Second World War ended, he enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard at age 17, where he was decorated with numerous sharpshooter and marksman medals and remained active for thirteen years, later becoming a recruiter.     Brown answered an ad by the Oconomowoc Enterprise newspaper for an apprenticeship and spent nine years there that turned into a career in the printing business that lasted 46 years.     He began writing a weekly outdoor sports column, with his first column appearing in the Oconomowoc Enterprise in February, 1953.  The column chronicled his weekly adventures in nature, sharing his love and knowledge of the outdoors, as well as his expertise and experiences hunting and fishing.  His writing was published in newspapers and magazines, including Sports Afield.  He was a freelance journalist for the Milwaukee Sentinel from the 1960s-1980s, as well as the Canadian Government Travel Bureau, and served as outdoor sports editor for the Waukesha Freeman and freelancer for 30 West Magazine.  He was President of the Oconomowoc Archery Club, the Oconomowoc Sportsman's Club and a Hunter Safety Instructor.     While working at Miller O'Connell Printing of Waukesha for 22 years, he also became President and Owner of Sportsworld Sporting Goods at the former Scotsland Mall in Oconomowoc during the 1970s.     In 1982, Brown was offered the chance to buy Parker Printing of Hartland, where he became both President & Owner, until he sold the business and retired in 1996.     Throughout his life, the outdoors remained his true passion and he resumed his writing career in 1998 when he wrote his first 'Tracking the Seasons' column for Lake Country Publications.  674 columns later, in 2013, he retired from writing.     He won numerous awards, but his most cherished was being named 'Outdoor Sports Writer of the Year' in 2004 by the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.       He loved spending time with his grandchildren and showing them the ways of the forests, fields and lakes. Teaching them the fine art of convincing a fish to bite was one of his favorite pastimes.    Mr. Brown is survived by his spouse, Anne; his two sons from first wife Dolores E. Lapplander: Kerry of Delafield, WI, and Kristofor (Aurora) of Pacific Palisades, CA; five grandchildren - Hunter, Harper, Halle, Jakob and Theodore - and his sisters, Dian of Green Bay and Kathleen of Oconomowoc. He was preceded in death by his mother Alvira L.
