(nee Mengel) Age 87 passed away Dec. 8th, 2013. Loving mother of Alison (Jeffrey) Riedi and Alan (Ann) Loper. Beloved grandmother of Lucas (Petra) Riedi, Jenna Riedi, Kimberly Loper and David Loper. Greatgrandmother to Sommer Riedi. Dear sister of Elaine Roalkvan. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred S. Loper, her sister Marguerite Mengel, and her parents Louis F. Mengel Jr. and Gertrude Louise Mengel nee Patzer. Alice graduated from Custer High School in 1944 and married her high school sweetheart Al, in 1947. She worked for Ideals Publishing Co. from 1970 – 2000, selling inspirational and children's books. She was a member of Hales Corners Lutheran Church for 46 years and found great comfort in the old hymns and in her faith. Holidays were always special to Alice. She was blessed to have spent this Thanksgiving with her family and had started to decorate her house for Christmas, in anticipation of the upcoming family gathering on Dec. 25th, complete with competitive family BINGO games. She especially enjoyed her birthday, commenting that birthday celebrations should last the entire month long. Greeting cards sent by family and many friends brought her great joy. Special interests for Alice include needle point stitchery, bird watching, travels to the south in the spring, lunches with friends, summers at the cottage on the West Twin River, and following the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. She delighted in her yard, the critters that she spotted, her deck, and the many rocks that line her paths and gardens. She was trimming branches in her yard as recently as this fall, and loved any opportunity to be outdoors. Alice treasured time with her family and was thrilled with the recent addition of a great-granddaughter to the family tree.
