Obituary

Amy Stonemark, was born Amy Whitman on December 6th, 1934 in Berlin, Maryland and welcomed to this world by her father Norman and her mother Evelyn. She grew up in Ocean City, Maryland and was sister to Ted, Evelyn, Ruth, and Fred. Helping others was something Amy was destined to do, and she was very good at it. She spent the majority of her professional career as a registered nurse in several hospitals and emergency rooms. She also was a midwife, a hospice worker, and a nurse for patients with special needs through the Visiting Nurses Association. Amy's heart knew no bounds as her willingness to help others and deep love for her children and family show us. She had a strong sense of right versus wrong and was active in the Civil Rights Movement. She gave her children and family a strong sense of pride, honor, and morality. Amy would protect and provide for all her friends and family whenever and wherever she could. She was able to cast a wide net of love, becoming "Mom" to many. Growing up as a child of Amy automatically meant that there was always a lot of brothers and sisters outside of just the siblings. Mom was a phenomenal cook, and once interned under Julia Child. There was never any hesitation to invite someone over for dinner as Mom always seemed to be able to cook enough for any situation. She was an excellent communicator, receiving her Bachelors and Masters degrees and later teaching English, Poetry and Creative Writing at the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin. Amy was an accomplished poet, becoming poet laureate at different institutions and her children's schools.Mom loved teaching, books, movies, nature, games, jokes, laughter and spending time with her friends and family. A true and loving wife to her husband, James and Amy were married on April Fool's Day, 1976. They were together for forty-five years.
