Betty Lou Hembrook (nee Anderson) was born to Roy and Elsie on February 10, 1939, in Ashland, Wisconsin during a blizzard. She passed away on the morning of January 23, 2024. Her 54th wedding anniversary! And also the day after a snowstorm. It's no surprise that Betty enjoyed winter sports like ice skating, downhill skiing, and snowmobiling.
She grew up in Baraboo and graduated from high school in Fort Atkinson. Betty earned her teaching certificate from Ashland Normal School, and started teaching in Park Falls. Her dedication to education was followed up with a 4-year teaching degree as well as a Master of Science in Reading, both from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. Betty's devotion to children and teaching spanned nearly 30 years with Greendale Public Schools.
Another blessing to come out of her time at Whitewater was meeting her husband, John. A "chance" encounter that just happened to be arranged by a mutual friend, Lavona Dakin. Betty is survived by her husband John, son Matthew, sister Donna Russell, many nieces, nephews and relatives all near and dear to her heart.
A longtime member of Whitnall Park Lutheran Church, Betty loved being in the choir, found joy in "tying knots" on quilts made by the Dorcas circle, and was known to "stir the pot" at times as a member of various committees.
The providers at Heritage Senior Living – Muskego and with Badger Hospice deserve more thanks than can be given. Betty, John, and Matt sincerely appreciate all you have done.
Betty is now free to once again enjoy the active lifestyle she always cherished.
