Bobbie Funches-McElroy was born in Memphis, Tennessee on January 29, 1955, a beloved daughter of the late Josie Schaefer and Fred Harris. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Funches. Bobbie came to Milwaukee from her native state of Tennessee in 1955, and she received her formal education from the Milwaukee Public School System. After graduating, she worked as a counselor for Horizon House and Health Care for the Homeless, Interfaith and the Guest House, along with Brother Booker Ashe with the House of Peace and the Rescue Mission. Bobbie devoted much of her time and energy helping people. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, and attending church. Bobbie was a member of Zebaoth Lutheran church, and she was raised in a family with strong religious beliefs. Bobbie's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her gentle smile and strong demeanor will be cherished by many forever. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory; her loving daughter, Nicole Funches, grandson, Rashand Appling, a sister, Jewel Funches, brothers; L.C., Cleophus (Marilyn) Funches, Jerome (Megan) Funches, as well as nieces and nephews.
