Burlue Johnson

Born November 13th, 1931, Davis Creek, Alabama - Died June 12th, 2026, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Burlue was born in 1931, the youngest child in a loving family of eight children. She left school in 1949 to go to work as a waitress for just over $1 per day. Her oldest sister, Fuzie, sent for her and she moved to Milwaukee.

She married Charles Hedrett Johnson in 1952. She gave birth to Cynthia Eulalia in 1954, and Hedrett Bernard in 1958. While she was taking evening classes for machine shop training she worked at Adelman dry cleaners until 1965, when she finished her classes and began working for Singer Controls Company. She went back to school taking evening classes and finished her GED at MATC on June 2nd, 1972. She worked at Singer Controls Company until she retired (then known as Eaton Corp) in November 1996.

She always took the Watchtower and Awake magazines from Jehovah’s Witnesses. She would leave a dime on the table for them for whenever they would stop by with the magazines. Charles Dorsey knocked on her door one Saturday morning in the late 1960’s and she said she would be interested in a Bible study. Carol Moon started studying the Bible with her and Rebecca Webb, and Jesse Norman finished her studies. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses with her daughter, Cynthia, on May 25th, 1975.

She loved gardening, she loved a beautiful lawn, and always appreciated looking at the well kept lawns of others. Some of the night school classes she attended were cooking, baking, and cake decorating, and she loved having friends over for an entire spread of soul food and German chocolate cake.

She often worked on cars. She fixed her own carburetors, starters, and body work, and did her own oil changes and tune ups. She enjoyed carpentry, and was very proud of several pieces of furniture she built.

Once she retired, she took up swing dancing and exercise classes. She was always ready for good food and good wine.

She was preceded in death by her father, Greenberry Berle Nall, her mother, Luizer Miller Nall, her siblings Carey, Camphus, Navy, Fuzie Lae, Ofers, Henson and Angie Lea and five half-siblings from a previous marriage.

She is succeeded by her children Cynthia Avery, and Hedrett Johnson; her nephews Ray Harvard (Regina) Nall, Norman Lee Nall, Beau (“Cyrano”) Nall, and Rayfield Phillips; her nieces Loudeen Phillips and Pearlie Mae Bunting; her grandchildren, Diana (Nick) Raether, Yvette Deal, Charles Deal, Merlin (Nicole) Avery Jr., Roy (Micah) Johnson, Rochel Johnson (Rodney Robinson), Amanda (Lloyd) Stricker, Rebecca (Ever) Diaz and Daniel Johnson. She has 15 great-grandchildren: Harold, Della, Jahmarri, Destiny, Alanna, Gavin, Celeste, Sydney, Jack, Rowan, Kamryn, Reese, Tinsley, Nyah, Miani and Danyiel; and five great-great-grandchildren: Preston Lavelle, Matthias, Adán Kody, Xiomara and Theodore Jahmarri.

She lived a full and wonderful life, she was well loved and will be missed. We look forward to seeing her again soon.
