IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl Henry
Medeiros
December 21, 1931 – December 4, 2025
Carl Henry Medeiros entered eternal life in Greenfield, WI on December 4, 2025, 17 days shy of his 94th birthday.
Carl was born on December 21, 1931, in Maui, Hawaii, where he lived the first few years of his life until his family moved to the island of Oahu. Carl was 9 years old when he recalled sitting at the breakfast table eating waffles as the Japanese bombers flew overhead on their way to Pearl Harbor. A year later Carl and his brother took a container ship escorted by a war convoy to California where he went to St. Vincent Academy until the war was over. He returned to Oahu, joined the Naval Reserves at 17 years old, and graduated from McKinley High School. He spent his free time in Oahu at the beach and drag racing.
After high school, Carl wanted to explore the mainland. To prevent him from pursuing his drag racing hobby, his parents agreed with the move as long as it wasn’t to California. Carl settled in Milwaukee, WI and started school at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. This began his career as a surveyor and draftsman.
Carl met Phyllis Tremblay and together they had three beautiful children, Michael, Darcy and Kevin. Several years later he married Judy Sergio and moved back to Hawaii where Anne and Christie were born. They returned to Wisconsin in 1979 shortly after Christie passed away and resided in Whitefish Bay until Judy’s death in 1989. In 1993 Carl married Marilyn Mueller, and inherited five stepchildren, Richard, David, Don, Dan and Julie.
Carl’s 37 years with the Naval Reserves took him up and down the west and east coast for his two weeks of Annual Training, in addition to his one weekend a month of drills. Carl served as an Engine Chief on submarines, managing the engine department, focusing on technical training, and maintaining the operational readiness of the ship’s propulsion, power generation, and mechanical systems. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer.
As a draftsman, Carl created detailed technical drawings for mechanical parts and assemblies and translated concepts into precise specs for production. His trade required skills in design, problem-solving, and teamwork to ensure manufacturability and accuracy for products.
Carl retired in 1993 at 62 years old. A couple of years prior to his retirement, Carl purchased a sailboat and for the next 30+ years sailed with friends and family along the Lake Michigan shores. He even tried his hand at racing across the lake in the Queens Cup. In addition, he was a life member at the South Shore Yacht Club. As a devoted Christian, Carl regularly attended Whitnall Park Lutheran Church and enjoyed the church’s dart ball league and bible study.
Carl is preceded in death by his father and mother, Jason and Alice (Petersen) Medeiros, brother, Will Medeiros, his second wife, Judy (Sergio) Medeiros (d. 1989), and his first wife, Phyllis (Tremblay) Medeiros (d. 2023), his daughter, Christie Medeiros, son-in-law, Thomas Hooyer, and stepchildren, Richard and Dan Mueller and Julie (Mueller) Pachowitz. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Bonnert) Medeiros, his four children and their spouses, Michael and Mary Kay Medeiros, David and Darcy Hinz, Kevin and Kim Medeiros, Pieter Leenhouts and Anne Medeiros, his stepchildren and their spouses, David and Kim Mueller and Don Mueller and Pam Kobin, as well as 21 grandchildren and step grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Whitnall Park Lutheran Church, 5847 S Lilac Ln, Hales Corners, WI. Viewing from 10-11 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Arlington Park Cemetery, 4141 S 27th St, Greenfield, WI.
