Obituary

September 1, 1945 – September 17, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Carol Jean Rex, who left this world surrounded by love. She was not only a mother but also a best friend—her presence lit up every room, and her kindness touched everyone she met. Anyone who knew her felt the warmth of her nonjudgmental heart and her open, unconditional love.

To her grandchildren and family, she was lovingly known as "Ma." To others, she was Carol, and to many of her sisters and close friends, affectionately "Hoochie Mama," a playful nickname that spoke to her fun-loving, sisterly spirit.

She now makes her eternal home in Heaven with her cherished husband of 52 years, Robert Rex, and their beloved daughter Candy Rex.

She is survived by her son, James Rex, and leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren Brianna Cooper, Tamara Turner, Kalsey Rex, and Dylan Rex; and her great-grandchildren Mason Arneson, Liliana Arneson, Liam Holland, and Leilia Holland. She is also survived by her sisters Darlene Schlieve, Shirley Megna, Donna Schlieve, and Marie Bailey, and brother Earl Schlieve, who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

She joins in eternal rest her parents, Loretta Schlieve and Walter Schlieve, along with other loved ones who have gone before her.

Carol was a precious and kind soul. She had the most beautiful hazel eyes, each graced with a single brown speckle, a detail as unique as she was. Her laugh was unforgettable—full of joy, contagious, and often brighter than the room itself. She laughed and lived with more joy and fun than anyone could imagine, showing all of us how to embrace life with a light heart and an open spirit.

Some of her favorite times were spent going to the casino to play slots or enjoying concerts with her sisters. She had a deep love of music, especially country, and her favorite artist was Kenny Rogers, whose songs brought her comfort, joy, and many sing-alongs throughout her life. Carol loved animals of all types but she was especially fond of horses and dogs.

Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
