Carol Smith was called home to heaven on June 29, 2021, at the age of 72. Carol lost her courageous three-year battle with cancer, and she was a true testament to 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
Her greatest pride and joy was her family. Carol was the beloved wife of Richard; cherished mother of Meaghan (Matthew) Ward and Tim (Katie) and stepmother of Matthew (Kerry); and devoted "Ama" of Annabelle, Lorelei, Scarlett, Ty, and A.J.
Carol is also survived by her mother, Margaret Tills; sister, Nancy Duchow; nephews, Scott (Erin) and Ryan Duchow; special cousin Laurel (Terry) Kammeyer; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Tills.
Carol was born in Milwaukee on December 4, 1948, and baptized at Jordan Lutheran Church in West Allis. She graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in 1967. She later worked at Bear Automotive, where she met Richard in 1974.
Carol and Richard married on September 14, 1979, at Good Shepherd's Lutheran Church in West Allis. Her love for her husband, children, and grandchildren was endless. Carol was a wonderful caregiver to her mother, Margaret, and she loved to babysit Annabelle, Lorelei, and Scarlett.
Her home was as warm as her heart, and she loved to cook, bake, and entertain her family and friends. Every Christmas, she baked dozens of varieties of cookies with Meaghan to deliver to friends and neighbors. Carol also took great pride in tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and canning vegetables, jams, and tomato sauces.
Carol and her family vacationed together on Lake Buckatabon in Conover, Wisconsin, for over 35 years. It was always her favorite week of the year, and she loved to spend time in their boat on Lake Buckatabon as well as lakes in the Muskego area.
Carol's faith was central to her life, and she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Muskego for more than 40 years. She was an active volunteer at the church and school, serving as a wedding and funeral coordinator for over 30 years and as a member of the altar guild. Carol was fond of The Bridge worship services and loved the community and music.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 7th and 8th floors of the Center for Advanced Care at Froedtert Hospital as well as Dr. Wong and his team for their excellent care.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 12 to 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, S66 W14325 Janesville Road, Muskego, WI 53150. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. The family hopes to have a live video stream of the memorial service for those who cannot join in person; please contact them for viewing information. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials in Carol's name be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Muskego Food Pantry.
