Catherine McMullen died peacefully on December 15, 2017, at the age of 90 years. Catherine was born on September 22, 1927 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She grew up in Milwaukee's Bay View neighborhood and was a graduate of Marquette University with a degree in Journalism. Her degree led her to a variety of writing and editing positions with the Canadian Register in Kingston, Ontario, Kalmbach Publishing Co. in Milwaukee, Woodall Publishing Co. in Illinois, Progressive Woman magazine in Indiana, and a public relations position with the Coleman Company in Wichita, Kansas. The bulk of her career was covering and promoting camping and the great outdoors, leading her to many exciting destinations including a luncheon for outdoor writers at the White House in Washington, D.C. as a guest of 'Lady Bird' Johnson. Catherine was preceded in death by her mother and father, Harriet and Francis McMullen, her two brothers George (Patricia) and Francis 'Frank' McMullen. Catherine is survived by her nephews Gerard (Mary), John, Paul, Peter (Rose) McMullen, niece Mary Kay (Husain) Mukhtar and eight grand-nieces and nephews. Visitation at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 9306 W. Beloit Rd., Milwaukee on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 10 AM to 10:45 AM. Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The family is grateful to the staff for the care at Meadowmere-Mitchell Manor.
