Obituary

In Loving Memory of Christine Marie Curl
October 7, 1956 – September 30, 2026
Chris, age 69, passed away unexpectedly on September 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, service, and unwavering dedication to her family and the Deaf community.
Above all else, Chris’s family was her heart. She shared 34 loving years of marriage with Richard R. Curl. Together, they volunteered, traveled, and raised their family, building a life filled with love, partnership, and cherished memories. She loved her family and friends fiercely and made it a priority to be there for the people she loved. She was the proud mother of Chasity and her husband, Joe Quiles; Chad Klusman; Pamela Cobler; Paul Curl and his wife, Jodi; and Elizabeth Curl.
Chris was a devoted grandmother who took immense pride in her growing family. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Meghan; Kaitlyn; Nicole; twins Izabella and her husband, Gage; Ian and his wife, Jessica; Cameron; Soleil; Josh; Carson; JoJo and his fiancée, Dynastee; Abigail; and Israel and his significant other, Maryeliz.
Chris treasured every opportunity to support her grandchildren, attending their sporting events, school activities, and important milestones. Her family could always count on her to be there, cheering them on and celebrating their accomplishments. She was their proud supporter, their biggest fan, and a constant presence in their lives.
Chris was also blessed with a beautiful and growing family of great-grandchildren: Rayann, Abby, Athena, Kelsier, Sabell, Brett, Sophia, Jaxon, Daisy, Ethan, Elaina, Aleiah, and Kairo. She also looked forward to welcoming her soon-to-arrive great-granddaughter, Nyala. Each of them held a special place in her heart. Though Jaxon passed away, he will forever remain a cherished part of the family and Chris’s loving legacy.
One of Chris’s most special relationships was with her great-granddaughter, Aleiah, her beloved little sidekick. The two were nearly inseparable, always together and sharing a bond that was truly their own. Whether spending time together, going places, or simply enjoying each other’s company, Aleiah brought Chris so much joy. Their special connection was a beautiful reflection of the love Chris had for her family. The memories they created together will forever be treasured.
Chris also deeply loved her siblings. Even when language and communication presented challenges, her love for them never wavered. She is survived by her siblings, Cathy and her late husband, Jim Stamper; Joe and Michelle Van Beck; Rick and Lisa Van Beck; and Tom and Julie Van Beck. Her relationships with them were a testament to the fact that love reaches beyond words.
Chris leaves behind a family who adored her, including many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, as well as friends who treasured her and a Deaf community that benefited from her leadership, dedication, and service.
Affectionately known as the “Baby Whisperer,” Chris had a special place in her heart for babies. If there was a baby in the room, chances were she was holding them. Her warmth, gentle nature, and loving presence made even the littlest ones feel cherished. From her grandchildren to her great-grandchildren, babies had a way of finding their place in Grandma Chris’s arms.
Chris was funny, silly, proud, and full of life. She loved to smile and laugh, and her sense of humor brought joy to those around her. A loyal Wisconsin sports fan, she especially loved her Green Bay Packers and proudly supported her Wisconsin teams. In addition to cheering on her Wisconsin teams, she and Richard loved watching the WNBA’s Indiana Fever. She found happiness in the simple but meaningful moments of life: spending time with family and friends, watching her grandchildren grow, holding a baby, and sharing a good laugh.
Chris was a proud graduate of the Wisconsin School for the Deaf and spent her life demonstrating that being Deaf was never a disability, but a challenge she took on every day. Through determination, hard work, and perseverance, she built a life of independence, purpose, and meaningful connections. She worked hard for everything she achieved and took great pride in the life she created.
Chris dedicated 42 years of service to the United States Postal Service before retiring. Retirement did not slow her down. She continued working part-time at Meijer and as a caregiver for elderly Deaf clients, offering the same compassion, commitment, and care that defined so much of her life.
A passionate advocate and leader within the Deaf community, Chris served the Greater Milwaukee Association of the Deaf (GMAD) in various roles and was proudly serving as its president. She was also involved with numerous committees and community initiatives. For several years, she chaired GMAD’s Ladies Christmas Party and served on the committee for the annual Deaf Gathering. She enjoyed attending GMADO events and playing Bunco. Whether volunteering, serving on committees, or supporting community events, Chris gave her time and energy generously. Her contributions helped strengthen the community she loved and will remain part of her lasting legacy.
Chris had a heart that put others first. She was always thinking of what someone else needed, often putting their needs ahead of her own. Whether caring for her family, supporting a friend, helping a member of the Deaf community, or showing up for someone who needed her, she gave of herself without hesitation.
Her absence will be deeply felt, but the lessons she taught through her strength, generosity, humor, and love will live on in all who knew her.
Her smile, laughter, fierce pride, and unconditional love will never be forgotten. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, aunt, and a remarkable woman who made a difference simply by being herself.
Chris’s love will live on through the generations she nurtured, the community she served, and the countless lives she touched.
Funeral visitation will be held at Hartson Funeral Home, 11111 W. Janesville Road, on Monday, October 5, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by a service at 6:00 p.m.-7:00pm
