Obituary

Clark Groen of Waterford, Wisconsin passed away in his home on December 27, 2015, at the age of 63. He valiantly fought cancer for nearly three years and breathed his last breath surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Janice (nee Williams). His legacy also lives on through his two sons Matthew (Jori) Groen and Jesse (Lori) Groen and his six grandchildren: Kari Groen, Kelli Groen, Clara Groen, Kaitlyn Chatman, Dylan Groen, and Ellie Groen.   Born to Karl and Wilma (Brown) Groen (who each preceded him in death), Clark was the oldest of five sons. He is survived by brothers Vaughn (Maralee), Boyd (Lori), Brian, and Brent (Carol). He leaves behind many other family members who loved him immensely including in-laws, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Born in San Antonio, Texas, Clark grew up in Cudahy, Wisconsin. As a child he was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Creek. He was also involved in several extracurricular activities at Cudahy High School including football, wrestling, and band.   At the age of 21, Clark accepted a job opportunity that would come to define his career. He joined the Franklin Police Department in 1974, and spent most of his adult life serving the community of Franklin, Wisconsin.  Through the years, he served the police department with distinction in a number of roles including Patrol Officer, Juvenile Officer, Detective, Lieutenant, and Captain. His intelligence, demeanor, and work ethic made him a highly respected member of the police force. In 2010, after 36 years of distinguished service, he retired.    Retirement did not suit Clark, and soon he found himself looking for a part-time job. Eventually he joined Securitas as a security professional contracted to InSinkErator. He made many friends and memories in his few short years there, and as with the FPD, remembered his time there fondly.   Clark had a vibrant and firm faith in Jesus Christ. He was a genuinely humble man who lived his life to bring glory to God. His family and friends remember his wisdom, insight, patience, quick smile, dependability, and love for his friends, family, and Savior. At the time of his death he was a member of Racine Bible Church.   The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Bruce Campbell, Dr. Stuart Wong, Dr. Christopher Schultz, and the entire staff of the Froedtert Clinical Cancer Center, who cared for Clark with such skill and compassion.  The family and friends of Clark Groen grieve his absence on earth, but rejoice in the fact that his faith in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ means he is now whole, cancer-free, and, most importantly, in the presence of God.   "Lord, it is not life to live, if Thy presence Thou deny;Lord, if Thou Thy presence give,'Tis no longer death to die.  Source and giver of repose, Singly from Thy smile it flows; Peace and happiness are Thine; Mine they are, if Thou art mine."                          - A.M. Toplady In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Shepherds Ministries, Rawhide, or to Racine Bible Church in Clark's honor.
