Commodore R. Barnes, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2015 at the age of 91. Loving husband of Joan (nee Becker). Beloved father of Donna (Mick) Dwyer, Fred (Terry) Barnes, Andrea (Randy) Roesler and Alan (Kirsten) Barnes. Very proud grandfather of Justin, Katie, Nathan, Theresa, Jared, Nicole, Andrew, Lexi, Emily, Lukas and great-grandchildren Alizay and Tommie. Preceded in death by his parents, siblings and beautiful daughter Marcia Feilen. As a veteran of World War II, Com was D+7 at Normandy where he and other Medics, established a field hospital on Omaha Beach. He then followed his assigned infantry and cared for wounded soldiers throughout France until the Battle of the Bulge. Upon returning home, he graduated from, and taught photography at Layton School of Art (now MIAD) in Milwaukee. Com and Joan built a home in Hales Corners in 1955 and raised five children in the Whitnall School District. As a lifetime self-employed businessman, he established Barnes Photographers on West Forest Home Avenue and among his many accomplishments in commercial art and studio portraits, he was appointed the official photographer for the Wisconsin State Fair for many years. Com coached his sons in the Whitnall Area Little League and also served as President of that baseball association. After moving his studio to his home, he opened "Barnes Bed and Breakfast" in Hales Corners. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and the Wisconsin Freemasonry. Com had a green thumb for gardening and took pride in his roses. In retirement, he relished in the lives of his grandchildren and all of their activities and has left a lasting, loving memory with them. The discipline and patriotism he learned when he served his country never left him, as his family will attest. Our hearts will always smile when we remember his wry sense of humor and the love that he shared with all of us.
