Obituary

We sadly announce the passing of Constance (Connie) Sawyer (nee Kaniewski), aged 92, who took her final walk to heaven on December 13, 2024. Born on April 26, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She lived life to the fullest with fierce independence, creativity, and faith.

A hardworking and caring person, Connie was known for her honesty and strength. She is survived by her son Mark Szehner, granddaughter Teresa Szehner, brothers Kenneth and Gerald, and brother-in-law Thomas Pokorski. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Pelagia (nee Stasiak) Kaniewski, her sisters Marge, Dorothy, Florence, Eve and Grace, her brother Donald and her husbands Roger Szehner and Buzz Sawyer.

Connie's passions extended beyond her proud work as a computer type setter to sewing, crafting, hiking, skating, exercising and playing Bingo. Not only did she create beautiful fashions, but she was also a true pioneer of the reduce, reuse, recycle movement and made numerous items that she gifted to her family and friends. Connie was always willing to help those less fortunate, and herself lived very simply.

In honoring the life of Constance Sawyer, we invite family and friends to join us in celebrating her legacy on the 93rd anniversary of her birth, Saturday, April 26, 2025. Gathering at the Funeral Home from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M., with a Catholic Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M.

In the words of Connie's favorite singer, Mr. Frank Sinatra, "I did it my way."
