DONALD ARTHUR THUTOf Hales Corners, died peacefully at home Monday, September 24, 2018 at the age of 87. He was born in Medford, Wisconsin on August 17, 1931, the son of Arthur and Lucile (nee Jari) Thut. In 1953, he received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and following that he joined the Army. 1st Lieutenant Thut served his country in Korea as an ordinance supply officer from 1953-55. On August 20, 1960 he married the former Barbara Gardner in Milwaukee, WI. He retired from a career with the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters in 1997, having served as Vice President of Finance. He generously shared his time serving on the boards of many charitable organizations and as a volunteer tax preparer for AARP. He enjoyed extensive world travels, genealogy research and time with family.He will be sadly missed by his wife Barbara and their children Mary Thut of Norcross, GA, Gary (Kimberly Rible) Thut of San Diego, CA, Brian Thut of Hales Corners, WI, and Karen (Lawrence) Motzel of Kenosha, WI. Dear grandfather of Brandon, Madeline, Arthur, Samuel, August and Emerson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joyce.Visitation Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m., St. Mary Catholic Faith Community, 9520 W. Forest Home Avenue, Hales Corners. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment with military honors at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI at 3:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorials to the ALS Society of Wisconsin (www.alsawi.org/donate) appreciated.
