Obituary

Dorothy Natalie Alex, nee Osenbruck, (95) passed away peacefully and fell into her loving Savior's arms February 26, 2025. Preceded in death by her husband (George) & son (Ron) she is now reunited with them in glory.

Born March 15, 1929 to Henry and Elsie (Vogel) Osenbruck in the Bronx New York, Dorothy, "Dottie" or "Dot", was the second of four children, Marilyn (Jacob), Mildred (Edman) & Henry.

Her love story began at 16 with a scroll through a list of WWII service member's names on a local New York billboard where a pen pal from Philadelphia stationed oversees in the Navy turned into a three year courtship and ultimately a proposal in front of Tiffany's in New York, awaiting her 20th birthday & father's blessing.

Married to George Vernon Alex on April 24, 1949, they started their married life in a downtown New York "furnished room" but children were not long off, first with Ron in 1950, then Tom in 1953. Needing more space, in 1957 they moved to the suburb of Garnerville and welcomed their third, George, in 1959 before ultimately building a family home in Tappan in 1963, where Dorothy took a job in the local Elementary School kitchen before "graduating" to a similar position at Tappan Zee High School.

Her work in kitchens was then limited to only the family kitchen as Dorothy took a position in the accounting office at Dexter Press, a postcard company. Always a nurturing mother of three rambunctious boys, Ronald (Kitty), Tom (Cheryl) and George (Karen), Dorothy was a woman in a boys' world, although she was sure to carve out her "me time" to shop!

Their sons out of the house, a job opportunity for George at AC Spark Plug, and her younger sister, Mildred, already in Wisconsin lead to a move to Milwaukee in 1976 where Dorothy worked at the Sears Outlet store in West Allis, probably just for the discount alone!

After it closed in the early 90's Dorothy shifted her time and skills to numerous volunteer opportunities at her churches, first Greendale Baptist then Grace Community Church, as well as Shepherds Home in Union Grove, WVCY Christian Radio & helping with her growing grandchildren. With the bit of free time she had, Dorothy also enjoyed finding a great deal and utilizing that lifetime discount to Sears!

As George Sr. slowly progressed down the Alzheimer's spectrum, Dorothy faithfully cared for him in their home until his final stages required a facility. But her devotion did not end as she would be there to help serve him meals or play cards as he sat and watched. With George gone, Dorothy volunteered even more at church and visiting other friends.

Developing Alzheimer's herself, Dorothy slowly declined in mental health, but always seemed to stay spry physically. She entertained herself, and her mind, playing cards, doing word puzzles and creating her own neighborhood watch right from the picture window of her living room! Limited outings to church and the grocery store slowly became TV sermons and doctor visits with George or Karen.

A fan of bluegrass Gospel music, she is surely singing this today:
"To this changing world I bid farewell when I hear that trumpet sound
I'll sail away to heaven above for my Savior I have found
I've made my plans I'm ready to go I'll wear a robe and crown
And I'll meet my friends and loved ones up yonder when the sun of my life goes down " (When the Sun of My Life Goes Down)

Private family burial at VA Center to be held.

In lieu of flowers donations to Grace Community Church (www.ourgcc.com) or the Alzheimer's Association are appreciated.
