Dorothy Edna Gumieny, nee Heidger, age 96, of Muskego, Wis. entered eternal rest Friday, April 23, 2021 after a very brief stay in hospice.
Dorothy was born March 20, 1925 in Port Washington, Wis., the daughter of Lawrence 'Leonard' Heidger and Florence Blumenberg Heidger. Dorothy met the love of her life, Gilbert, at a dance in St. Martins in 1941. They married May 4, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hales Corners. During their 51 years of marriage, they were lifelong residents of Muskego. In addition to being a lovely mother and homemaker, she helped Gilly run Hales Corners Tile Co. and Gumieny Tap.
She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially the babies. Dorothy kept the large family close and was always ready for a visitor with the large candy bowl and refrigerator stocked with visitor's favorites. She also enjoyed polka, bingo, and gambling.
In early 2020, Dorothy moved into assisted living at The Regency in Muskego, where she was safe from the coronavirus. And even though she hated not being able to see her family, besides the regular window visit, she made new friends and became a favorite of the staff.
She is survived by her six children: James (Jayne) Gumieny of Cecil, Dennis (Wendy) Gumieny of Wind Lake, Susan Gumieny Prey of Waco, TX, Edward (Barb) Gumieny of Wauwatosa, Douglas (Carol) Gumieny of Mukwonago, and Carol Sue (Jeff) Blawat of Elton; 18 grandchildren: Mina (Rick) Schwoerer, Daniel (Dawn) Gumieny, Kristin (Jay) Olsen, Jennifer (Mike) Bailey, Becky (Jesse) Bissing, Adam Gumieny, Terry, Kim (Josh) Alvarez, Tony Gumieny, Annie Gumieny, Benjamin (Jennifer) Gumieny, Jessica (Joseph) Klein, Paul (Hope) Moczynski, Matthew (Elizabeth) Moczynski, Ashley (Rob) Vanier, Jake (Amanda) Blawat, Luke Blawat, Nickolas Blawat; 29 great-grandchildren: Wade, Brooklyn, Colby, Donny, Derek, Kyle, Daniel Jr, Scarlet, Hannah, Ella, Drew, Ryan, Briley, Jase, Hudson, Isaac, Anna, Lily, Elsie, Kayne, Elise, Charlotte, Michael, Edison, Lyla, Bentley, and Noah 'Hammy'.
