Obituary

Dorothy Mae (nee Amundson) Mietz, age 94 of West Allis, Wisconsin passed peacefully on Tuesday, September 18th, 2018 surrounded by loving family. She was born on July 15th, 1924 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a daughter to John and Mae (nee Hawley) Amundson. She married Dorr Carl Mietz on July 9th, 1949 at Mount Hope Lutheran Church. In 1956, she and Dorr built and lived in their home in West Allis, Wisconsin. This home on South 90th Street, was the hub for her children and grandchildren alike. The kitchen was home to many conversations and hosted Thursday night dinners bringing family together. Dorothy stayed in this home until 2015, then moved in with her daughter and son-in-law Dale and Gary Zettler where she quickly came to feel at home. Daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Jeffery Bussanich also welcomed her into their home in the final weeks of her life. She was cared for by her four children until her death.Dorothy worked at her father's trucking company until 1952. She volunteered at the Pabst Mansion for more than 30 years. She also volunteered at Woodlands School for years helping children learn to read. She traveled the world with her good friends and when she was no longer able to travel around the world, she continued to do so in her mind by reading, always learning more about the world around her.Dorothy was loved by all who knew her because of her genuine interest and care for all people, her open and sharp mind, and loving heart. She treated each person with as much dignity and care as the next. Family was the most important part of her life and she will be forever held in our hearts as the sweetest and most accepting of women.Dorothy is survived by her children: Amos Mietz, Kathy (Jeffery) Bussanich, Dorothy Mietz (Brian Adams), and Dale (Gary) Zettler; her grandchildren: Ursula Mietz, Sonja Mietz and Adam Becker, Maija and Eric Salgado, Emily Bussanich, Sydney Zettler (Mark Garrison) and Zachary Zettler. Her great-grandchildren: Noah and Sage Becker, Suki and Remi Salgado. She also welcomed Giana, Jovanni, and Bianca Salgado into her heart. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother John Amundson, her grandson Samuel Jeffery Bussanich, and her sister-in-law Dorris Amundson.A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, September 27th, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Hartson Funeral Home, 11111 W. Janesville Road, Hales Corners, Wisconsin 53130.
