Obituary

Douglas Alan Gass Age 67

After eight years of being apart, Doug joined his late wife, Pam. His COPD, diabetes and Leukemia were hard enough on him, but his health deteriorated quickly once the pneumonia took over. He was removed from life support on Friday morning the 23rd of October, 2026

Doug was preceded in death by his wife Pam and his Father Richard. He leaves behind his mother Evelyn, sister Nancy, brother Donny, sons Logan and Jake, and granddaughters Maleeha and Madalynn.
Doug came from California and settled in Milwaukee to be with and marry Pam. He worked for FedEx as a road driver. He retired from FedEx shortly after losing Pam.

He leaves many other friends and relatives behind. He spoke regularly about the great gang of neighbors at his former residence on 10th and Morgan. He missed their parties and camaraderie when he left the area. He missed that hometown feel, where he could yell over the fences to greet friends as they came and went. They were like family to him. Wheelchair bound. He was able to make it to one last party. He talked about it, and them and former gatherings for months.
Please know that we truly appreciate what your friendships meant to Doug over the years. The kindness shown to him even before his health issues began, made his life enjoyable. Thank you so much for making his days bright for him, whenever it was in his life that he crossed paths with yours.

Doug may not have had the last 8 years of his life had it not been for help from friends especially Barb, one of Pam's friends. She took care of Doug since he lost her. Pam was his everything and when she passed, he thought he had nothing left. It took Doug a long time, but Barb helped him realize he had so much more to live for. His more recent caregiver, Shari, quickly became a very good friend. She filled his days with joy until the very end.

Doug loved grilling. He could grill anything. He liked his food spicy, so you'd remember eating his creations. He specially ordered exotic meats to grill for themed neighborhood parties. He won the Silver Fox award for his grilling expertise.

He loved to ride his Harley with Pam at his back. They used to leave on weekends and end up wherever the road took them. He loved black jack, golf, pool, feeding his critters and visits from friends.

When his health started affecting his ability to get out as much, he renewed his love of solitaire. He owes ‘The House’ more money than you could imagine, but he said, ‘Let them try to collect!’
The other love that filled his days were movies. Especially westerns. The old ones. He enjoyed other classic movies from the 40's and Penn and Teller.
He liked the packers and loved the brewers. He enjoyed boxing and fights and anything on the sports channels. He had every channel possible to be sure he could watch them all. He found some newer shows: Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, Mobland, and Tulsa King. He recently binge watched them all and was looking forward to the new seasons coming out.

He tried three retirement communities, ending up at Forest Ridge where the staff and residents were always helpful and kind. Neighbors knew him by name. He knew them by their pets.

Doug was one of the nicest people you'd ever meet. He could talk to anyone, and make everyone laugh. He will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Doug's chosen charities, St.Jude Children's Research Hospital or the ASPCA. (If you watched as much television as Doug did; you'd have to send them money.) You could also donate to the Leukemia Research Foundation. (All of these have a 99% rating on CharityNavigator.com.)

Doug's last words were, “I love you all. Bye. Go Brewers.”
