Obituary

DeBrue, Edith L. (nee Cooper) passed away June 19, 2013 at her home. She was born in Milwaukee on March 5, 1941 to Mildred and Glenn Cooper. She was a graduate of Cardinal Stritch College in 1963. She first taught on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent from 1964-1966. Most of her teaching career was as an art instructor; for 2 years in Cedarburg and for 31 years in West Allis. On August 14, 1971 she married Thomas J. DeBrue. She was active in her Catholic Faith Community, especially the Haiti Women's Support Group. She also served several years as a lay chaplain at Froedtert Hospital. In 2009, she was diagnosed with lung cancer and had undergone treatment at Froedtert Cancer Center. Edith is survived by three sisters; Dorothy M. Wutt, Phyllis M. Gallagher, and Mildred D. cooper, a brother, Thomas E. Cooper, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence D. Cooper, a sister, Marilyn Cooper-Spero, and her husband, Thomas. Visitation will be from 3 until 4:45 P.M. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at St. Mary's Faith Community, 9520 W. Forest Home Ave., Hales Corners with a Funeral Mass at 5 P.M. Inurnment will be in St. Adalbert's Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
