Obituary

Burgess, Edward West "Ted" Died peacefully May 7, 2011, at the age of 91. For the past 18 years he dealt with Parkinson's Disease with dignity and grace. After 65 years of marriage he leaves his wife Doris, and their 4 children Lynne (Keith) Valiquette, Mary (Nicholas) Avrakotos, Edward Wesley (Annette Valeo) Burgess and John (Barbara) Burgess. He was so proud of his 9 grandchildren Anna (Ger), Sarah, Noah, Aaron, Avery, Nolan, Edward West, Natalie, and Haley. His first great grandchild, Theodore, delighted him. Ted served for over three years with the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII. He then completed a master's degree at the University of Chicago and became a career diplomat with the Foreign Service of the U.S. State Department. He served in Syria, Egypt, South Africa, Burma, Yugoslavia, France and Czechoslovakia. He reitred in 1976 and returned to his hometown as Assistant Director of the Institute of World Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He loved his motorcycle, tennis, bridge, chess and a rousing game of hearts.Memorials:Memorials may be sent to the Aurora Parkinson Research Institute in Milwaukee.Visitation:A family gathering to celebrate Ted's life will be held in Holmen, Wisconsin at a later date.
