Edward LaVern Schroeder, age 85, passed peacefully on August 19th. 2026.
Beloved husband of Jane Schroeder (Schintgen), cherished father of Todd (Jennifer) and Brian (Melissa) and dearest grandfather of Alyssa, Jacob, Joseph, Braxton, Maizie, Bode, Zarah and Tennyson as well as great-grandfather to Luna and Lily. He is also survived by his sisters, Anita (Tom) and Ellen as well as his brother Jeffrey. Ed is preceded in death by his son Scott, his parents, Alphonse and Verna (Schamens) and his brother Ronald (Shirley).
Ed had a zest for life and shared it with everyone he met. There were few places he went where he didn’t know someone and if he didn’t, he remedied that by finding new people to talk to.
Ed found joy in his family and was utterly dedicated to Jane for almost 58 years. Ed’s boys were his pride and joy and he took great pleasure in the men they’ve become. He treasured his grandchildren and loved nothing more than making them laugh with his silly magic tricks.
Ed was born in Cashton Wisconsin where his father owned an automotive shop. He loved the small town life and read the Cashton paper many years after leaving.
Ed joined the Navy out of high school, being active duty for several years. He transitioned to Air Force Reserves, 440th T.A.W. from which he retired after 20 years of service.
Ed also spent many years working for Wisconsin Motors.
He was a sports fan, spending many hours cheering on the Badgers and the Brewers as well as following the Wisconsin high school basketball tournament. He also enjoyed making “donations” to Potawatomi whenever he could get someone to take him.
Ed’s faith was one of the foundations of his life. He and Jane have been members of the Holy Apostles Catholic church for 40 years. He volunteered throughout the years, using his friendly, welcoming personality to greet many parishioners.
Ed was truly one of a kind. He was kind, strong and his sense of humor was the keystone of his personality. Ed was a favorite among the staff at Linden Grove Memory Care and he charmed everyone he met there
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Veterans Outreach. https://veteransoutreach.org/product/one-time-donation/
