Elaine Jeraldine Koncz of Sun Prairie, WI went home to be with her Lord and Savior after dying peacefully on Wednesday, May 28th, 2014 at the age of 78 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, WI. Elaine was born on September 22, 1935 in New York City. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents (Isadore and Rebecca), her brother, Nathan, and her sister, Esther. Elaine is survived by her former husband, Elek, her sisters, Rosalind and Terry Ida, and her children, Nicholas of Hartland, WI, Marguerite of Nanuet, NY and Stefan of Ringwood, NJ.Elaine, called "the little one", was the youngest of five children. She graduated from high school in West Palm Beach, FL and spent summers with her mother in Ellenville, NY. Elaine's early adulthood was spent in New York City. After marrying her former husband Elek, Elaine resided in North Bergen, NJ in 1964 where she raised three children. In 2001 Elaine moved to Madison, WI to be with her son Nicholas. She loved Wisconsin, its people and its scenery.Elaine worked as a practical nurse at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, NY. After her divorce, Elaine worked as a check processing clerk at the American Bible Society, New York, NY, and as a licensed home health aide for Norrell Health Care, Hackensack, NJ. Elaine trusted people and hated discord. She gave up her bedroom in a two bedroom apartment in NJ so that her children would not fight. Elaine did not complain. A car ran over her foot on a snow covered roadway and she refused to go to a hospital or doctor. Elaine cared for the physical needs of her family. She would walk 30 blocks one-way to go to the nearest major supermarket with a cart and take the cart up two flights of stairs.Elaine's faith was integral for her. She was raised as a conservative Jew and later became a Jewish believer in Christ. She would answer and provide literature for those with questions on Jewish customs and beliefs. Daily she would read her Bible, kneel and pray after waking for her family and for others. She wore out several Bibles. Elaine enjoyed dancing, sketching Disney characters, and murder mysteries. She enjoyed road trips in midwestern states, as well as traveling to Washington DC and San Antonio, TX. She loved watching wildlife. Elaine volunteered at various churches in NJ and WI, at the UW Hospital and at the West Madison Senior Center.The family would like to thank the staff of the Willows Nursing and Rehabilitation, Sun Prairie, WI, the palliative care unit at UW Hospital, Madison, WI, Wisconsin Dialysis, Fitchburg, WI, Care Wisconsin, Madison, WI, Four Winds Manor, Verona, WI, and City View Nursing Home, Madison, WI for caring for Elaine over the past 62 months.In Lieu of flowers, please send cards, remembrances and memorials to the Hartson Funeral Home, 11111 West Janesville Rd, Hales Corners, WI 53130.
