Obituary

NEW BERLIN – Betty McBrair, age 98, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026. Loving mother of Jerry (Pam) McBrair, Scott (Eileen) McBrair, Jill (Bill) LaCroix, Jan Uphoff, and son-in-law Larry Wills. Proud grandmother of Heather (Chris) LaMaster, Heidi McBrair, Troy McBrair, Daniel LaCroix, Colin (Cassie) McBrair, Jenni LaCroix; and great grandchildren Kori, Harper, Connor, and Charlotte. Also survived by her sister Donna; She is preceded in death by her husband of 78 years Milne “Mac” McBrair, her daughter Mickie Wills, and her brothers, Nelson and Duane.

Betty was born in Iola, Wisconsin and was raised in nearby Plainfield. She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1944. Betty married Mac McBrair in 1946. They moved to Milwaukee in 1948, where she became close friends with the other post-war moms on the block.

If raising five children wasn’t enough, she also was an officer in The Mothers of Twins Club as well as The Tee Birds Golf League, and worked at Gimbels during the holidays. Betty enjoyed golf, ceramics, bowling, and caring for her grandchildren while their parents worked. It was not uncommon for Betty and Mac to travel over a thousand miles to take care of those grandchildren. She also loved watching her kids and grandkids participate in sports like T-ball, soccer, karate, basketball, cross country and track.

Betty suffered a disabling benign brain tumor in her late 50’s, though her strong will power never let that stop her from enjoying life or occasionally beating Mac at golf. She had several golf trophies to show for it.

The family would like to thank The Regency New Berlin and Linden Court assisted living personnel and residents as well the Common Heart Hospice team for all they did to befriend help Betty these past couple of years.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society.
