Obituary

Rink, Elmer J. "Jerry" 1909 - 2010. There is a line from the movie "The Other Side of the Mountain" when the main character reflects on the loss of a loved one saying, "Aren't we lucky to have known someone that makes saying good-bye to so hard." Elmer was just such a person. A friend once called him "a prince, one of the most gentle, kind and loving people that one could ever know." Elmer had such a sense of humor, clever and engaging. On Friday, October 1, 2010, Elmer passed away at home, with his family at his side. Elmer entered into the Heavens at the age of 101. Elmer, the loving husband of Mildred, was blessed with four wonderful children, Nancy, Neal, Ellen and Gayle. For over 40 years, Elmer was a lithographer and retired at the age of 62. Just last week, he laughed when we asked him if he ever thought he would live to 101! He replied "Not in 1000 years did I think I'd ever last that long." As family and friends, we were blessed to have had him in our lives for so long. Elmer loved to travel, often visiting his son Neal and wife Carolyn in Denver, and his daughter Ellen and husband Neal in New Mexico. He often took trips to Las Vegas with his children, one as recently as a year ago! Elmer enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tiffany and Molly, of Colorado, spent summers vacationing with their grandparents. He so appreciated and enjoyed their recent visits. Elmer attended school and basketball activities for Amy. He watched her grow up here and was a big part of her life. Elmer will always be "Gramps" to Morgan McCoy, and was a family friend of Geraldine McCoy of Colorado. Elmer followed the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. Over the years, he had a keen interest in family history. He loved polka music and to dance. Oh, how he loved Friday Night Fish Fries! We will truly miss Elmer but as a family member recently said, "he will only be as far away as our thoughts." Elmer was preceded in death by his wife Mildred, in 2000. He is survived by his children, Nancy Morey, Neal (Carolyn) Rink, Ellen (Neal) Thielke and Gayle (Bill) Roddick; grandchildren, Tiffany, Molly and Amy; and great-grandchildren, Brooke, Jenna, Heidi and Weston.Cemetery:Mt.
