Dr. Eugene R. "Gene" Russell, DDSPassed away peacefully on March 12th 2017 at the age of 89. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Mary Ann; children David, Jeff, Bruce (June), Peter (Theresa) and Joseph (Linda); 9 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in passing by his father Corey, mother Agnes and son Jon.Gene was born on October 19, 1927, in Milwaukee. He attended Bay View High School and was an active swimmer and cheerleader. He spent his summers as a lifeguard on Bradford Beach. Upon graduation he served in the US Navy for 3 years during which time he was assigned to the Dental Tech Program. After returning home he was accepted to dental school at Marquette University where he met his future wife Mary Ann. After graduating from Dental School in 1952, Gene opened a private dental practice on 68th & Lincoln that he ran successfully for 50+ years. He and Mary Ann settled in Hales Corners where they raised their six sons.Gene loved to spend time with his family and travel both here and abroad. He seemingly attended all of his children and grandchildren's sporting events and was one of their biggest fans. Gene was a "World Class" story teller, avid fisherman, and enjoyed playing golf and cards. Painting became another one of his passions after retirement. Service to his community was a core part of who Gene was and he led by example. He spent countless hours serving the community in his dental practice, the boy scouts, local youth programs, fundraisers, and teaching at Marquette Dental College. His real joy in life however, was spending time with his grand kids.Goodbye Dad. You will never be forgotten!A celebration of Gene's life will be held on Friday March 17th at DIVINE SHEPARD LUTHERAN CHURCH (9741 W Beloit Rd, Milwaukee, WI 53227). Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 – 11am with Services to follow at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to the church are appreciated in Gene's name.
