Obituary

Frances M. "Peg" Hart (nee Mandery) Found peace and was reunited with the love of her life, Jim, on December 7, 2018 at the age of 85. Loving mother of Susan, Michael (Annie), Chris (Greg) Steinmann, and Sandra (Scott) Bush. Proud grandma of Alisha (Christopher) Nelson, Alyssa and David Steinmann. Great-grandma "GiGi" of Emmett and Lowen Nelson. Dear sister of Marian (the late Patrick) Fiasca and Bob (Arlene) Mandery; sister-in-law of Cindy (Bob) Barczak and Carol (the late Dick) Vogl. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, her sister Joan (the late Royce) Hill, brother John (the late Katherine) Mandery, and other family members and friends. Peg was born on June 29, 1933 to Fran and Fred Mandery. Raised in South Dakota, Peg moved to Milwaukee in high school, graduating from Riverside High. Peg and Jim met at the wedding of Arly and Bob Buntrock. Their first date was to the movies; they saw "Creature from the Black Lagoon". Peg did not like the movie, but she loved Jim and they were engaged on Christmas Eve 1954. On April 16, 1955 they were married, then spent the early days of their marriage at Camp Lejune, NC, where they welcomed their first child, Susan Marie. Back in Milwaukee they filled their hearts and home with 3 more children. Peg was always busy volunteering for something at the school or sewing clothes for her kids. She enjoyed summer trips to Big Cedar Lake, Bridge Club, Yahtzee games, and so much more. After Jim's retirement they enjoyed vacations to Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, and a variety of other places. Her camera was always ready to capture the places she saw and people she met. Peg was passionate about everything, but her greatest passion was for genealogy. Her interest in family history and discovery of early ancestors led her to join many heritage societies. She became a member of Daughters of the American Revolution in 1980, and quickly rose to leadership as regent of the Annis Avery Hill Chapter in Wauwatosa. She served as regent for six years the first time. After serving as registrar for a number of years, she was elected to regent again. She served on the Wisconsin DAR state board as organizing secretary and state registrar; she also held many chairmanships such as Genealogical Research Committee, Volunteer Genealogist, and Bylaws chairman. She was a member of the Edward Jackson Chapter of Colonial Dames of the XVIIth Century, which she served for many terms as registrar, helping others to join. In 2002 Peg was State President of US Daughters of 1812, and represented Wisconsin at Associate Council in Washington, D.C. She was also active in Daughters of American Colonist, Daughters of Colonial Wars, and Dames of the Court of Honor. She enjoyed many trips to Salt Lake City and Washington, D.C., where she and her friends scoured the libraries for genealogy information at the headquarters of Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, and US Daughters of 1812. Visits to Washington, D.C. were wonderful experiences - visiting the national headquarters and museums, and enjoying the gracious events held for members of these societies. She loved the elegant teas served on beautiful silver and porcelain, as she and her friends represented Wisconsin as delegates to national conventions. Peg was successful in her research for herself and for many other members and prospective members of those societies. She helped many others join, and her research won the respect of national officers and genealogists, something she was proud of. We were all so proud of her accomplishments. She will be missed. Visitation Saturday, December 15, 9:30 AM to 11 AM, with Memorial Service beginning at 11 AM. Hartson Funeral Home – 11111 W. Janesville Rd., Hales Corners.
