Fred Benka, peacefully went home to his loving God, November 3, 2016. Born in Milwaukee, WI., to Felix and Martha Benka, he was preceded in death by his brother, Felix Benka and his sister Barbara Jakubowski. He is survived by his sister Bernadine Subitch, nieces, nephews, and other relatives, along with lifelong best friends, Ronnie and Pam Wehr, with whom he shared many adventures for over 50 years. Fred was employed by Consolidated Freightways for 25 years. He served in the US Army as an acquisition radar operator for three years and was a proud patriot. He took loving care of his wife, Sherri, his daughter Kim Olson, son Jeff Benka (Maureen) and adored grandsons, Mark, Kelly and Nick Olson. Fred gave of his time and self to friends and strangers, his heart reached out to those in need. He served with the Salvation Army for an extended time in New York after 911 and on numerous disaster relief sites throughout the United States. A farewell gathering was held for friends and relatives; he will be laid to rest at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date, Pastor Merritt officiating. In memory of his beloved Molly and Lizzie, donations will be forwarded to a Labrador Rescue group.
