Obituary

Godfroy, Gary E. Age 76. Went Home to be with the Lord on December 28, 2010. Gary is survived by Jane, his wife of 50 years; son, Robert (Jean) Godfroy; daughter, Karen (Peter) Bucchianeri; grandchildren, relatives and beloved pets. Graduate of Drake University in accounting. Retired from Milwaukee County Dept. of Social Services in 1990, with 17 years of service. Love of music was his greatest joy. Beginning drum lessons at age 4, he soon taught himself the sax. He played both instruments in the high school band. In college, he was a drummer in the Drake Marching Band, Drake Concert Band, and played tympani and cymbals for the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra. Continuing his musical career in Milwaukee, he played weekends at the Bavarian Wurst Haus for 20 years with many Steve Swedish units and other groups. During his 50 years, he witnessed the ever-changing popular music scene from the 40's to the 90's. Polkas were his favorites. He loved every "gig" and over the years these totaled over 3,000. He stopped accepting "gigs" in 1990.Memorials:In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to further Alzheimer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Attn: Development Office for Alzheimer's, 8701 Watertown Plank Rd., P.O.
