Obituary

Terzis, George C. June 24, 1923-October 29, 2010 Terzis, Marion S. January 11, 1924-November 1, 2010 Loving and devoted parents to Judith (Danny) Holford, David (Cheryl) Terzis, Shirley Klepp and Diane Terzis. Grandparents of Nicole (Rick) Ackerman, Lindsey (Jeremy) Haese, Michael, Kevin and Brian Klepp, and Tasha Holford. Great-grandparents of Hunter, Marek and Genevieve Ackerman. George was preceded in death by his parents Christ and Pearl Terzis, sisters Helen and Marion. He is survived by his sister Dorothy. Marion was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Hilda Kurtus, brothers Verner, Elmer, and Edwin. Marion and George met on a blind date on May 5, 1946 and were married on June 21, 1947. Their "love story" continued from the moment they met until the day they died. Their lives were so beautifully intertwined. Dad said, as they celebrated their 63rd anniversary, "we are still going steady." Anyone who met them could easily see how connected they were to each other. They were inseparable in life and in death. Mom was an operator and office worker for Wisconsin Bell prior to raising her children. Besides being a homemaker, mom was very involved in church activities. She taught Sunday school for many years and regularly attended a Bible study group. They were members of St. Luke's Lutheran Church since 1956. Dad worked at Schlitz Brewery for 33 years and retired in 1981 when the plant closed, though he never retired from life. He loved working around the yard, gardening, and fixing things. He even enrolled in a small engines course at MATC for several years. Both enjoyed spending time with each other and their family. After retirement, they took up bowling and golfing and were active members of Bally's. Dad was mom's primary caregiver in recent years. He cared for her at home until it became too difficult because of her progressive illness and his own health issues. Dad was by her side every day after she moved into SouthPointe Health Care Center in 2002. Dad had increasing health problems in 2010 and eventually went to live at Layton Terrace on March 18th. These past 7 months were difficult for him. He was not used to needing and/or accepting help from others. As usual, dad and mom did everything together. Dad was admitted to hospice on August 7th and mom was admitted 3 days later on August 10th. After significant changes occurred they both were transferred to VITAS Ruth Hospice House on October 24th. After having a couple "good days" with mom and guiding his children in how to prepare for her funeral, dad's condition worsened. He died a few days after knowing that mom was taken care of and soon would be joining him, which she did, 3 days later. Dad left this world first because he could not imagine a life without her. Dad served over 3 years in the Army, winning 4 battlestars in France and Germany with the 94th Infantry Division under General Patton with the Field Artillery Unit. Dad went to Washington, D.C. on September 19th as part of the Honor Flight for WWII Veterans. He saw the WWII Memorial and it impressed him so much that he could not stop talking about it to anyone who had time to listen. Thank you Ruth Auer and Stars & Stripes Honor Flight for giving dad this final gift. "He thanks you all." Special thanks to the staff at Layton Terrace, dad's "home away from home" and to the staff at SouthPointe Health Care Center for their wonderful care for mom since 2002. Thank you Dr. Mannino for the years of compassionate care you provided for dad. Thank you Dr. Dhala and Kristin for giving dad's heart a bonus of several years. Thank you VITAS Ruth Hospice House. You provided a place where mom and dad could peacefully spend their final days together. Thank you VITAS Hospice for giving mom and dad the "tools" for comfort care in their final months. The support of all has been phenomenal. Special thanks to Lynn Sobon, Krista Brugger, Lynn Pulvino and Cindy Farmer. Thank you Charlene Rizzo - you were their "guardian angel."Memorials:In lieu of flowers, contribution can be made to: Stars & Stripes Honor Flight, VITAS Hospice or St. Luke's Lutheran Church.Cemetery:They will be laid to rest, together, at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery.Visitation:Visitation will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 6705 Northway, Greendale, on Thursday, November 4, from 2:30-5:00 PM.Service:Funeral Service at 5:15 PM.
