Obituary

Gwendolyn Kathleen Cyganek

Born: June 19, 1940 - Died: May 28, 2024

Gwendolyn K Cyganek, 83 of Greenfield, WI was born to Eternal Life on 5/28/24 surrounded by loved ones at The Lutheran Home Accent Care Hospice. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 40 years, Thomas M Cyganek and was welcomed to heaven by her beloved parents, Marjorie Schaefer & Paul Schaefer, as well as many other family members and friends.

She was born June 19, 1940, in Milwaukee and graduated from Pulaski High School. Gwen attended college and graduated with a degree in Travel and began working as a Flight Attendant for Capitol Airline. Gwen's beauty and shining personality guaranteed success in everything she did and she was very proud of her two services in the air and loved every minute of it! The stories she could tell!

Gwen left her career with Air Travel, married and had two daughters, Laura and Paula. She became a stay-at-home mom and raised her two girls in Naperville IL. Circumstances brought her and her daughter Paula back home to Milwaukee.

Gwen then went on to join the corporate world as an Executive Administrative Assistant at Henry's Foods, and reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Thomas M Cyganek. They were married May 26,1984 at St Mary's. Gwen was blessed with a blended family that now included Thomas' daughter and two sons in addition to her daughters. She was a wonderful stepmom and was so grateful to have an extended family. As time went on, she was also blessed to welcome eight grandchildren to the mix.

Family was everything to her and she put family first during the good and challenging times and was always willing to sacrifice her time and energy for all. She was extraordinarily faith-filled and found strength in prayer. She was eternally grateful for the many blessings of her life and received amazing grace from God to make very difficult, life-changing decisions for her and her daughters. Her children knew they were valued and loved throughout their childhood.

In addition to family Gwen was a devout parish member of St. Mary Catholic Faith Community for at least 40 years. She not only attended regularly but volunteered in many capacities over the years. She was the assistant to the Human Concerns Coordinator for many years both working in the office as well as actively being involved in the committee meetings.

Her positive and can-do attitude helped to accomplish much and endeared her to everyone in the office and parish! She was a much-loved member of the choir for both Sunday masses and funeral masses. In both choirs, she was "Mrs. Alto," known for her strong, beautiful voice. Even when she was sitting in the pews, you could hear her amazing harmonies.

When it was time to relax, Gwen loved the old black and white tv shows/movies. She loved traveling to Door County with Thomas and enjoying the lakefront views. Gwen had many friends to socialize with and especially loved the impromptu cocktail hours with neighbors as well as the birthday dinners they shared. She treasured time with friends and she was a great friend to have; some were lucky enough to be not only a friend, but the "family she chose."

She was an excellent listener and enjoyed a good laugh while making everyone feel special. Gwen will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Cyganek, two daughters, Laura Bowman Copp (John), Paula Kallio (Raymond), bonus daughter, Lonni Cyganek Albright (Bret), bonus sons, Craig Cyganek (Janet) and Brad Cyganek and eight grandchildren, Taylor Tomczak, Ashley Bauer, Zachary Cyganek, Andrew Poticha (Alyssa), Autumn Cyganek Mear (Caleb), Serena Geotsch, Cydel Cyganek and Micah Gilbert, also niece Dolores Schaefer.
