Obituary

Dr. H. Harpster Wonder, 91, beloved husband and father, died February 12, 2019, with his family by his side in West Allis, Wisconsin. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 4 PM at Hartson Funeral Home, Hales Corners, WI. Visitation is from 2:30 pm to 4 pm.He was born July 28,1927 in Findlay, OH to Gladys and Holland Wonder. His father was an executive with Marathon Oil. His mother was a dedicated family homemaker. He graduated from Findlay High School in 1945 and entered military service with the US Navy in1945. He served as a Navy Chaplin Yeoman from 1945 to1946. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Harpster Wonder attended Bowling Green State University in 1946 where he met his wife of 69 years, Anita Jean Chase. They married in 1950, and moved to Chicago where he attended the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM). In 1952 he graduated from CCOM and moved to southeastern Wisconsin with his wife, Anita Jean.He began private practice as a Family Practitioner in the Milwaukee area in 1953, founding the Beloit Road Family Clinic in West Allis, WI in 1960. He founded the New Berlin Memorial Hospital in 1965. He continued in medical practice, serving the communities of West Allis and New Berlin until his retirement in 1992. During the tenure of his medical career he received the following awards from the medical professional community: General Practitioner of the year (1969), Fellow Award of the American College of General Practitioners (1972), Life Membership of the Osteopathic Association (1992), and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine 50 years of service (2003). He was an active member in medical missions and served as a physician for DOCARE, and many other medical ministries through out the world including clinics in India, Mexico, Africa, Mongolia, and other under served areas around the world. He was a loyal church member at various churches through out his life including: Bethel Hill Methodist Church (New Berlin, WI), Elm Brook Church (Brookfield, WI), Village Bible Church (Hot Springs Village, AR.), and Grace Community Church (West Allis, WI). His interests included family, airplane piloting, community service, devoted practitioner for medical missions, and international outreach including sponsoring various refugees and international students from around the world. Dr. Harpster Wonder is survived by his wife, Anita Wonder; children Dianne Wonder and spouse, Douglas Wonder and spouse, and Holly Wonder; and 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
