At the young age of 69, cancer took our beloved Hazel from our lives in the early morning hours of Sunday September 2nd. Even though her pain and suffering is now gone, she will be greatly missed by her loving family. She will be forever remembered with great affection by her husband Michael, their children and their spouses, Stephen (Susan), Robert (Dara), John (Amy) and Kathryn (Marc). She adored all her grandchildren, Sarah, Haley, Victoria, Abby, Tanner and baby Maia who is yet to be born. She spent her first twenty years in England where she will be also missed by her sister Patricia and her children David and Sakinah (Geoff) and their children Hebe and Dunstan. The 'in-laws' were also a big part of her life. She will be deeply missed by Grandma Deanna, sister-in-laws Kathy ( Tim) and Barbara and brother-in-law Bob. Also nieces Jennifer, Brenda, Lisa and Tricia and their children. She was also very close to friends Mary Lou and Carol. Hazel worked much of her life as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She cared deeply for her residents and treated them as if they were royalty. Many times when she was off-duty, they would say 'Where is Hazel, I want her to take care of me.' She enjoyed making them laugh. Her favorite hobby was taking care of young grandchildren. That of course, was a long-term project since the oldest is 17. Christmas could only be celebrated at her house. She spent many hours in meal preparation which always included the tradition of breaking English 'Poppers' and the playing of a special card game for many trinket prizes. Birthday cards were always a requirement even if they were received a bit tardy. Even though her bad knees limited her motion, she continued to invite adventures in her many travels especially with her close friend Donna. Can you imagine Hazel tubing a river or sliding down a zip line in Belize? Or attending a cooking school in Italy? She loved to cook with wine and sometimes she would even put it in the food. Two quotes attributed to Hazel are: 'This too shall pass' and 'Everything in moderation' Visitation will be on Friday September 7, 2012 at the Hartson Funeral Home at 11111 W. Janesville Road, in Hales Corners from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up in Hazel's name.
