Helen M. Atkinson (Nee Shirk) Found eternal peace on February 13th, 2016 at age 73 years.  Proceeded in death by her parents Willard and Marian Shirk, her brother Dennis and her husband of 35 years, Robert Atkinson.  Beloved mother of Kevin (Michael Reba) Atkinson and Kimberlee (Thomas) Bartell.  Cherished grandmother of Kjerstin and Annika Bartell.  She is also survived by her brother Glenn (Nancy) Shirk.  Helen will be missed by other relatives and friends.  Helen worked at St Luke's Medical Center for over 35 years.  After retirement, Helen devoted her time to be principal care giver to her ailing mother. Helen was always actively involved in her children's and later grandchildren's activities.  From Cub Scout den mother to a fixture at Young Dance Academy, Helen was quick to help out and volunteer.  Spending time with her grandchildren was one her greatest joys. She enjoyed having them sleepover, volunteering at their school, helping out and cheering on at both dance competitions and swim meets.  Getting front row seats at dance shows or sporting events to watch her grandchildren was a target not often missed. Helen enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, down to Disneyworld, Cranberry Fest in Eagle River or up to Mole Lake, she enjoyed it all.  Baking and cooking was a passion for her, from her delicious butter rolls to that heavenly pan of chocolate brownies and so many tasty treats in between. No one at a family gathering will forget the staple of the pink jello.VISITATION Thursday, February 18th, 5PM to 8PM, Hartson Funeral Home, 11111 W. Janesville Rd., Hales Corners.  Memorial service, Friday, February 19th, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 3801 W. Morgan Ave., Milwaukee, at 11AM.  In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorials in Helen's name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
