Obituary

Wells, Irvin E., Jr. 'Eternal man' Passed away peacefully September 1, 2013, at age 65, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy. Beloved husband of Connie (nee Ewig). Proud and devoted father to Rocko (Crystal) Wells. Brother of Trudy Bielke, Debra (Jim) Stone, Jenny (Al) Baranowski, Roger (Nancy), and Dan (Liz) Wells. Brother in-law of Sharon (Bob) Markowiak, Jerry (Mary) and David (Nancy) Ewig, Bonnie (Jim) Lopata and Cindy (Paul) Anton. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and his treasured Akita, 'Zena'. Preceded in death by his parents, Irvin, Sr. and Gertrude, siblings Gail and David, and his adored Akita 'Beamer'. Irv was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army as a medivac first responder combat medic/trauma specialist. He received numerous honors, including the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat. Following discharge he was selected to be trained in one of the first programs designed to transition combat medics into the Physician Assistant profession. He served as a surgical PA for several years in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Washington, DC, after which time he established the Vietnam Veterans Confederation and served as it's Executive Director in the early 1980s. In this position he became a tireless, vocal advocate for veterans rights, improvement of conditions at VA facilities, passage of legislation acknowledging the effects of Agent Orange on veterans physical health, and recognition of PTSD on their mental health. Irv will remain in our hearts forever and will be remembered for his bright smile, colorful vocabulary, mischievous sense of humor, and his bravery and positive attitude while facing and conquering many life threatening medical issues over the past 25 years. We often referred to him as 'eternal man'. Howard Ave., New Berlin, on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, from 9:30 AM-11:45 AM. -Service:Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon with military honors to follow.
