Obituary

Jack E. Foucault died on Thursday, July 9, 2015 after complications from a heart valve replacement surgery.  He was 87.  Jack was born on August 17, 1927 in Milwaukee, and was a lifelong resident of the city he loved.  After graduating from Boy's Technical High School in June of 1945, he joined the Merchant Marines and began basic Seaman training in Sheepshead Bay, NY.  Training was interrupted by an un-authorized train trip back to Milwaukee to propose to Audrey Meredith, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life.  While serving on the SS Bear Paw in the Pacific, he was drafted by the Army in early 1946.  His military service was highlighted by a year-long posting to Rumoi, Japan as a Morse trained radio operator for a small radar station.  Jack and Audrey married in May of 1948.  He was working as an electrician for Miller Furnace Company, but by 1952 he had passed his civil service exam and went to work for the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works as an Electricians' Helper.  When he retired in 1987 he had advanced to Supervisor of Street Lighting and Traffic Engineering.  He was a member of Toastmasters International, and became an accomplished public speaker.  Always fascinated by aviation, he took flying lessons and realized a life dream of solo flight.  After retiring, Jack and Audrey embarked on an ambitious world travel adventure, going around the world twice and visiting over 70 countries.  When home between trips, they volunteered as tour guides for Historic Milwaukee, Inc., and as Welcome Ambassadors for the Convention Bureau.  Extensive travel and an interest in history spurred Jack to dust off his Boy's Tech drafting skills to launch Magnificent Monuments in Miniature, an enterprise to create and sell scale paper model kits of famous architectural treasures.  Growing up as Presbyterians, a move west from their Bayview roots lead to their active membership in the congregation of Memorial United Methodist Church, where Jack taught Sunday School and Audrey sang and directed the choir.  An avid photographer, Jack converted a basement room to a 'darkroom' to develop his own prints.  He loved the outdoors, and Audrey and his sons have great memories of fishing and camping vacations.  Jack is survived by Audrey, his wife of 67 years, and sons Ken (Barbara) and Bob (Shari).  He is also survived by grandsons Jack (Dana), Jim (Gina), Jeffrey (Kris), David (Joy), and Michael (Jessica), and 10 great-grandchildren.  Preceded in death by his brother Gordon, granddaughter-in-law Kelly and granddaughter Amy.
