Obituary

Jack D. Schaubel, Milwaukee - Age 88.

Born January 15, 1938 in Chicago, IL and passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2026.

Jack was the loving husband of Sandra (nee Pliska) for 64 years. Beloved father of Christian (Susan), Martin (Dorothy) and Jennifer (Dennis) Hood. Proud grandpa of TK, Noah, Peter, Sophia and Caitlyn. Also survived by his dear sister Karen and brother Jeffrey (Teri Mikolic); sisters-in-law Diana (Robert) Heinz, Isabelle Timm, and Penelope Schaubel; brother-in-law Richard (Patricia) Koffarnus; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack H. and Anna J. Schaubel (nee Gwost), his brothers Alan and Roy, and sisters-in-law Marianne Schaubel and Sandy Kreger.

A graduate of Bay View High School, Jack was the first in his family to attend college, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.

Jack held a love of art, and imparted this appreciation to Sandy and his children. Together they enjoyed visiting The Milwaukee Art Museum, The Grohmann Museum at MSOE, The Art Institute of Chicago, and Milwaukee’s Lakefront Festival of Art. Every trip to a new city included a visit to a new art museum. He belonged to a Milwaukee sketch club, painted the occasional landscape, and created numerous abstract art paintings and collages. He enjoined pairing papier-mache’ skills with Sandy’s sewing to make elaborate Halloween costumes for the kids.

Other favorite activities included following local sports teams, listening to jazz music, and rummage “sailing”.

Most of all, Jack treasured time spent with family. His best friends were family members, and he maintained close relationships with his siblings, cousins, and in-laws. He found special happiness through interaction with his children and grandchildren, and proudly thought of them as his legacy.
