Jan L. Pritzl, a life-long resident of Milwaukee, WI, peacefully passed away with his loving wife of 52 years, Karen A'Rowan, by his side, leaving a legacy of generosity, and quiet dedication.
Born on August 23, 1942, to Arlene (Hansen) and Carl Pritzl. Jan is survived by his wife Karen A'Rowan, his sister, Jill (Pritzl) Carr (Michael Carr), his niece Kristina Baker, and grandniece Arianna Nichols, grandnephew Mason Rutka. He was preceded in death by his niece Jolene (Baker) Rutka and his beloved son, Lorand Kyler (formerly Mark Pritzl), who married Kathy Kyler in 2007 and passed away on May 12, 2024.
For 37 years, Jan was a valued, skilled engineer at Channels 10 & 36, retiring in 2006. He was instrumental in maintaining, purchasing, and installing equipment, including the transmission tower. Family, friends and colleagues knew him for his ability to creatively solve problems, his courtesy, and his knack for fixing nearly anything.
Jan's talents were utilized beyond his professional life. For 42 years, he volunteered at Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove, where he first met Karen in 1970. He was deeply involved in facility renovations and repairs as well as lighting and sound for theatrical productions. At church he sang in choir and lent his technical and creative problem-solving skills for children's musicals, running sound for services, and helping install a new sound system.
He served in the military in Vietnam in the late 1960's, then taught for the Army while he finished his degree as a television engineer.
Within his family, Jan was remembered for his unique tradition of wrapping gifts in ways that were either cleverly disguised or creatively displayed. His caring presence and resourceful nature is deeply missed by those who have known him.
