Weston, Jean (Nee Walters) April 19, 1927-January 12, 2011. A longtime resident of Wauwatosa, Jean was born in Toledo, Ohio, and raised in Los Angeles, California. At a USO dance in 1944 she met a handsome young sailor who quickly asked her to marry him. Being a practical sort she said no. The young sailor, Gathel Bryce Weston, asked again after a more respectful interval, she said yes, and they began their sentimental journey together. They moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 1963 and to Wauwatosa in 1970. In Wauwatosa, Jean worked first as a dental receptionist and then for a long time as office administrator at the Unitarian Universalist Church West. She loved to sing and was a member of the Sweet Adeline's and was also a member of the Wauwatosa Women's Club. After a trip in the 1980's to Haiti with Ventures in People, Jean looked around her own community, found a need and helped to establish the Wauwatosa Food Pantry. It was one of her proudest accomplishments. Gathel and Jean loved to travel and one of their fondest memories was their trip to Paris and London in 1946. With children in tow they took long vacations in the family camper, from Mexico to Canada, Colorado to Cape Hatteras. Life with Gathel and Jean was often an adventure and as often as not we slept under the stars. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Gathel. She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Jean Weston and her son, Gathel Mark Weston.Memorials:In lieu of flowers, please donate to Ventures in People (VIPHaiti.org) or the Wauwatosa Food Pantry.Visitation:A memorial service will be held at 2PM January 29, 2011, at Unitarian Universalist Church West, 13001 W.
