Age 87. Passed away peacefully August 29th, 2018. Preceded in death by her loving husband Commodore and beautiful daughter Marcia Feilen. Beloved mother of Donna (Mick) Dwyer, Fred (Terry) Barnes, Andrea (Randy) Roesler and Alan (Kirsten) Barnes. Very proud grandmother of Justin, Katie, Nathan, Theresa, Jared, Nicole (Kyle), Andrew, Lexi, Emily, Lukas and great-grandchildren Alizay and Anthony.Joan was born and grew up in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. She was the second child born to Eleanor (Goom) and Alois Becker, and had an older sister Mary Ann, whom she was very close to. She spoke fondly of her days at Lincoln High School where she was a cheerleader and also honored for perfect attendance in the classroom. Joan's caring nature steered her to Mercy Hospital in Chicago where she trained to be a nurse and worked as a governess. Soon after she met her future husband, Commodore. Together they built a home in Hales Corners and started a family. The consummate mother, Joan raised five children. Her love of babies led her to West Allis Memorial Hospital where she worked third shift in the nursery for 25 years. Com and Joan also opened and operated Barnes Bed & Breakfast in Hales Corners for many years. Upon retirement they relocated to a condo nearby, where they both lived out their lives. Because all five of her children chose to live close by, Joan was present at the recitals, plays, basketball, baseball, softball games, graduations and weddings of all of her grandchildren, which they truly loved seeing her attend. She was a devout Catholic, a member of Saint Mary Parish and attended mass every Sunday. She lived her life in a way that she felt God would approve. She was a beautiful person inside and out and will always be remembered for her positive, uplifting attitude. With her signature smile and contagious laugh, she led by example as a devoted and loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother. We are all blessed to have had Joan in our lives and she will be truly missed.A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Faith Community, 9520 W. Forest Home Avenue, Hales Corners on Monday, September 10th, at 5:30 PM.
