John "Hans" Stokman, age 91, a resident of Greendale, died Saturday, July 20, 2024, at home surrounded by family.
Hans was born in The Netherlands on December 28, 1932, to Martin and Anna Stokman. Hans was the beloved husband of Donna (Courtois) Stokman for 65 years. He was preceded in death by their daughter, Cindy Galvan, and is survived by children Tony, Paula (Andy) Moxon and Ann, grandchildren Alex, Matthew, Emma and Rachel and his beloved cat Cosmo.
The first 12 years of his life were spent in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), where his father worked as a geologist for Shell Oil. After his father was killed during WWII, he and his mother spent a year in a Japanese concentration camp. They escaped the country and moved back to Holland. Eventually, he attended the Electrical Technical Institute where he received a degree in electrical engineering.
Because of the hardships he endured during the war, he was able to immigrate to America, becoming a proud citizen. He worked at American Motors/Chrysler Corporation in Kenosha for 22 years as an electrical engineer, doing a job that he loved, until his retirement.
Hans valued his faith, family, and hard work. Most of his spare time was spent helping his family and friends. He belonged to multiple sheepshead clubs which was one of his favorite hobbies.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 11:45 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Faith Community, 9520 W. Forest Home Ave., Hales Corners, WI.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
