John Henry Wolf III passed away July 17, 2021, at age 67, after a short but difficult battle with cancer, leaving behind the many friends and family members who loved him and will miss him dearly. He is survived by his father and mother, John (Jack) Henry Wolf Jr. and Dorothy (Karstedt); his daughter Coral, married to Alex Wegmann; his son John IV (Jack), married to Janee (Knapp); his former wife, Mary (Grede); and brothers Tom Wolf and wife Nancy and Mike Wolf and wife Kim. He is the proud grandfather of Adalynn Wolf, John Henry Wolf V and Maple Wolf.
John was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1953. His family moved around the Midwest, including Louisville, Chicago and South Bend, following his father's job. He played freshman and sophomore high school basketball in Louisville and won a state Latin title in Kentucky. The family eventually moved to Brookfield, WI where John attended Brookfield Central High School for his junior and Senior years, graduating in 1971. While attending high school in Brookfield he joined the track and field team, setting records in the high jump and winning a conference championship. He then completed his B.A at the University of Wisconsin with a major in Economics. He went on to Gonzaga for a year studying law and eventually received his J.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1979. For most of John's professional career, he had his own private practice specializing in worker's compensation and personal injury.
The family remembers John's wit, intelligence, wonderful sense of humor, and his love for all music. He particularly liked taking it out on the dance floor – and quite well, with struts, jumps and kips. John was a voracious reader, an avid collector, a corrector of poorly written English papers, and a fan of everything Badger, Cubs, and Bears.
John will be buried next to his younger brother David who preceded him in death in 1964. A private burial and memorial reception for family and friends will be held on September 4th. The family asks for any memorial contributions to go to the mental health charity of your choice.
