Obituary

Jonathan Christopher "Jon" Winski, age 54, passed away on October 6, 2025, in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, after a short but aggressive cancer. Born on July 15, 1971, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jon lived a life marked by deep devotion - to his faith, his family, and his community.

Jon's journey began at Washington High School in Milwaukee, where he met the love of his life, Kirsten. Their bond blossomed into a lifelong partnership that spanned 37 years from their high school days and 28 spectacular years of marriage. Together they built a life rooted in love and shared purpose. The arrival of their sons, David (13) and Danny (9), brought immeasurable joy to Jon's world. Every day as their father was a gift he cherished deeply. He embraced fatherhood with boundless enthusiasm - whether coaching archery, supporting the band as a booster, guiding the chess club or delighting middle schoolers with his legendary riddles.

A man of insatiable curiosity and diverse talents, Jon dedicated himself to learning throughout his life. He earned certifications as an optician, ophthalmic technician, corneal recovery specialist and even as a hostage negotiator - a testament to his wide-ranging interests and commitment to service. His craftsmanship extended to knife making and instructing others in axe and knife throwing. With each new skill he acquired or taught, Jon brought passion and precision.

Jon's faith was the cornerstone of his life. More than anything else, he was a Chaplain - serving the Lord with humility and grace in both everyday moments and formal roles. His ministry touched many lives through his work with the Dane County EMS Honor Guard and funeral services for Hartson Funeral Home. He officiated weddings filled with joy and baptisms that celebrated new beginnings. His calling as a Chaplain was not just a role but a reflection of who he was: compassionate, steadfast and spiritually grounded.

Though Jon's professional accomplishments were many, it was his presence that left an indelible mark on those around him. He filled every room with kindness, confidence, laughter, and an unwavering assurance that everything would be okay. His belief that "God's plan is perfect" guided him through life's challenges and triumphs alike.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Winski and Florence Greenblatt of Milwaukee. Their memory lived on through him - in the values he upheld and the love he gave so freely.

To know Jonny was to remember him always. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all whose lives he touched.
