Obituary

Kenneth (Ken, Kenny) A. Buss passed away on August 21, 2023 at Caring Alternative in Muskego, WI, at the age of 94. He had moved into Caring Alternatives only 8 weeks earlier, prior to which he was still living in his own home in Franklin, WI.

Ken was born on May 13, 1929 in Milwaukee, WI the son of Otto and Margaret (Schwessinger) Buss. Preceded in death by his most cherished and loving wife Edith (Edie) (Hazeldeck) Buss, dearly loved grandson Blake Nelson, his brothers LeRoy and Melvin, and sister Vernetta.

Ken and Edie were married on June 17, 1950 and were married just shy of 67 years. They were best of friends and you would always find them together; fishing, traveling, woodworking, building rec rooms, making poker tables, going to the casino, and working in the yard. They were members of the Lakeridge Boat Club in South Milwaukee through which they made many close friends. During their years of fishing on Lake Michigan they were very successful at hauling in the "big ones." Ken had a definite knack for filleting fish, as Edie always said, "He must have been a surgeon in another life." We were never short of having freshly caught salmon to grill or smoked fish at Christmas. Ken would bake cheesecakes for special occasions which we always looked forward to. Another one of our favorites he and Edie were known for making was pasties. After Edie passed, Ken always bought cut flowers and placed them on the dining room table for her. He continued to do this for 6 years, buying one or two bouquets every month.

Ken retired from Harnischfeger (P&H) on May 31, 1991 after 40 years, employed as a machinist. After retiring, he continued to use his craftsmen skills in his woodworking hobby where he built numerous intricate wooden models of trucks, trains and construction equipment.

Ken is survived by son Lee (Barb) Buss and daughter Connie (Ron) Nelson. Further survived by grandsons Brian (Missy), Adam (Erin), Grant, and Cody (Paige), five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, his very caring neighbors, and his devoted dog "Pepper" who you would always find next to him in his recliner or following him around the house.

A special thank you to all the caregivers for their compassionate care at Comfort Keepers, Caring Alternatives and Badger Hospice.

Ken always enjoyed visits from family and friends. He had a quick wit and was a great storyteller. He will be missed dearly by many.

Private interment at Arlington Park Cemetery at a later date.
