Schmidt, Lawrence 'Larry' Died at home on May 9, 2012. It is often noted that death comes following a 'long and courageous battle' with some illness--in Larry's case it was pulmonary hypertension. But surely no one has fought such a battle with more grace, dignity and good humor than Larry did. To the end his focus was not on the disease but on the life he could cram into whatever time he had. He kept the spotlight firmly on those around him: his wife and partner in every facet of life, Jo; his sister Marsha [Emile] Dalal; Jo's family Betsy and Tom Little and Earle and Carol Horne; niece Alison Dalal and an entire 'village' of friends near and far who called, wrote, brought meals, and made visits. Through the years of waging this fight, Larry was treated by the medical team at Froedtert's Pulmonary Clinic and at the end the caring staff at Horizon Hospice. He and Jo were especially grateful for the care and support they received from their hospice nurse, Anna Lisa. Larry was the son of the late Alex and Clara (nee Marks) Schmidt. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison and pioneered the adult daycare movement in Milwaukee. Finally because Larry would not want it any other way please dress casual!Service:A memorial service to celebrate the full and adventurous life that Larry enjoyed will be held on Tuesday, May 15, at three o'clock at the First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, 1342 N. Astor Street.
