74 years ago a baby girl was given the name, Linda Rose Lucas. In the languages of love, Linda Lucas literally means "Beautiful Bringer of Light". As she grew, Linda shared her light with all those she met in her world. Like one candle igniting another, the light spread. Her light remains with us today.
Linda was the second oldest of 4 children. When she and her siblings were young, they were shuffled between the Milwaukee County Children's home, extended family, and foster care.
Eventually, she & her brother were permanently separated from their two younger sisters by being placed in different homes for the remainder of their childhoods. For Linda, these early experiences formed the basis of importance placed on family and nurtured the special bond the siblings shared throughout adulthood.
While Linda was still in high school, she met the love of her life, Bob. They married in 1968.
Once again Linda had to endure separation when Bob received orders to serve in Vietnam.
Linda was expecting their first and only child when he shipped. They wouldn't be reunited again until Kimmarie was nearly 6 months old. Her little family was where she placed her heart.
In her twenties, Linda was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She would suffer debilitating pain and joint damage for the rest of her life. Because of the unique struggles she faced at such a young age & her chronic pain from RA, Linda found herself searching for support and guidance. She found it in faith. Given the limitations of her disease, "Prayer Warrior" was the vocation Linda knew she could offer her world and those she cared about in it. She took prayer seriously and she did it well. Linda's relationship with God was paramount to living. It was what brought her joy.
The three most important things in the world to Linda, TRULY, were her faith, her family, and her friends. By enduring this final journey in her life, she brought all three together. The length of time from diagnosis to death gave her loved ones a chance to gather in spirit and in person. We supported each other and often shared our own thoughts and experiences regarding life and faith. She also laid fertile soil for a father/daughter relationship to sprout anew. She gave us a community.
Linda may have felt that her imprint on the world was minute....but she was an ambassador among us. She shared her joy of nature and fostered ties between God and all the people in her life. She prayed constantly for every one of us. For her little family, during her final months, it became all about Linda, when for most of her life, it was always all about us.
When she entered this world 74 years ago Linda became, in name and deed, the Beautiful Bringer of Light, Now her light remains with us while her spirit is free... free of that body which, while a gift that sustained her life, greatly limited her living. Linda is with her Lord, and with those who have gone before us. She is now in the place where she is bound by nothing but her desire to serve God AND to watch over all of us...her Loved Ones.
