Mary T. Benzinger (nee Hebein) of West Allis passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. Mary was born April 15, 1942 in Iron Mountain, MI and moved to Milwaukee, WI when she was 12 years old. She was a graduate of Messmer High School and attended Marquette University. On April 11, 1964 Mary married Daniel R. Benzinger and they made the Milwaukee area their home. Mary was in the medical field (EKG Technician) and then later became a teacher at Milwaukee area Catholic Schools (St Annes; St Leos and St. Thomas Grade Schools). After the schools closed Mary went to work at Grandma's House DayCare where she continued to share her great gifts of nurturing and love to all the children. Mary retired in 2009. She was a devout Catholic and attended St Matthias Parish. She was an avid Brewer fan and loved attending their spring training and regular season games. She attended Cranfest in Warrens, WI for over 25 years, loved to travel, visit wineries (with her sister-in-law Carol) drink coffee until wine time, gardening and cooking "Monday night" dinners for her family. Mary will be dearly missed by her husband Daniel; 5 children: Theresa (Joseph) Mehrwerth, Karin (Jeffrey) Strubel, Danny (Carrie) Benzinger, Julie (RC) Schroeder, Michael Benzinger; 17 grandchildren: Stephanie (Paul), Steve (Samantha), Jacki (Matt), Ryan, Jake (fiancé Melissa), Jeremy, Alec, Samantha, Matt, Ben, Andrew, Anthony, Michel, Lukas, Jack, Emma, Edwyn; 4 great-grandchildren: Caleb, Colin, Zachary, Greyson. Her Brothers: Peter (Sheila) Hebein and Joseph Hebein, Brother/Sister-in-law's: Mark & Carol Benzinger, Joe & Sharrie Benzinger and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and longtime friends. Mary was preceded in death by her Parents, Jacob & Jennie Hebein; Brother, Rev. James Hebein, Sister-in-law Audrey Hebein and Parents-in-law Roy & Loraine Benzinger.A celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at St Matthias Church. Visitation will be at church from 10:00am to 11:45am. Mass will begin at noon. Burial to follow at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee. Memorials may be made to National Association for Down Syndrome (NADS), St Jude Children's Hospital or St. Matthias Parish.
