Obituary

Martin, Mary Jane (O'Brien) Born on December 2, 1926. Formerly of Hales Corners.   Passed away on November 22, 2015 at the age of 88 at home surrounded by family.  Preceeded in death by husband, Thomas N. Martin to whom she was married for 59 years.  Mary Jane and Thomas lived in the City of Milwaukee and attended St. Agnes Church until 1967 when they moved to Lory Lane in Hales Corners, WI and attended St. Marys Church.   Mary Jane was born to Evelyn Cavanaugh (Ouimet) and Vincent O'Brien.  Thomas was born to Thomas Martin Sr and Dorothy Stiegler.   Mary Jane has one surviving brother Karl (Patricia) Kolm of Texas.   Mary Jane and Thomas were preceded in death by Robert Martin (brother), Rita (O'Brien) Ritz (sister) and August Ritz (brother in law).  Mary Jane is the beloved mother to Michael (Karen), William, Maureen (William) Bayliss, Daniel (Cynthia) and Laura Martin.  Loving grandmother to Mike and Karen's family:  Feleicia, Matthew, Christopher and Suzy; William's sons Todd and Eric; Maureen's son Dustin (Julie) McCoy; Daniel and Cynthia's children Katherine and Ian.  Dear Great Grandmother to:  Henry and Parker.   Further survived by many nieces and nephews.  Mary Jane was an avid seamstress – having made many beautiful suits, clothes, communion dresses, Halloween costumes and even her daughter's wedding dress.  She took many classes through MATC and WCTC.   She was a wonderful crafter and decorated her family house for all of the major holidays including Valentine's Day.  She was a great baker and always made fresh chocolate chip cookies, cakes, pies, bread, waffles, and crepes.  She also experimented in making her own wine, furniture refinishing and could really stretch a dollar.  She always put the needs of her family before her own.  Mary Jane worked for the Milwaukee County Parks at  Boerner Botanical Gardens for over 30 years as a seasonal employee; first in the old Garden House and then in the new Boerner Botanical Gardens building.  She loved Whitnall Park and the Botanical Gardens like they were her own.  Over the years she met and made friends of many gardeners, Friends, and other county employees.  She was frequently invited to their weddings and parties.  She was very proud of her Irish Heritage and her favorite saying was about Irish Diplomacy.  Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Heritage Memory Care in New Berlin (where she was a resident for the last 2 ½ years) and to Hometown Hospice (who helped with her transition).    A Celebration of Mary Janes' life will take place on Wednesday, December 2nd, (which would have been her 89th birthday) at Bush Gardens,  14891 Janesville Road, Muskego  from 4-6:00 with a presentation at 6:15.   Join us to toast to her life and share laughter and good memories.
