Mary Susan ("Susan") Mitten

Milwaukee - Mary Susan ("Susan") Mitten of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed peacefully away on October 1, 2021 after a heroic battle against brain cancer.

Susan was born in Milwaukee to Jerome and Margaret Mitten on May 20, 1956. She earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University. Susan's eye for detail and her pragmatic nature aided in a fulfilling career working as a certified public accountant and finance director. She ended her career in 2016 at the Medical College of Wisconsin, after which she and her husband, Tom, enjoyed an active retired, newlywed life. Susan was a strong and supportive mother, wife and friend, who cared deeply for her family and community. She was an engaged member of the First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, and a volunteer and board member at the Interchange Food Pantry. Susan's contagious laugh and optimistic spirit will live on through her family and friends.

Susan is survived by her husband, Tom Hester, her children, Evan (Rachael) Decker of Augusta, Georgia, and Justine Decker of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and her grandchildren, Eliana and Charles John ("CJ") Decker.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of charitable contributions to the Interchange Food Pantry in Susan's honor (interchangefoodpantry.org).
