Michael Edward Krase, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29th, 2024. Mike was born February 21, 1951, the son of Edward and Helen, and grew up in Greendale, WI. He was active in Boy Scouts, loved all sports, and loved to be in the outdoors exploring nature. In 6th grade, he had the honor of having Dick Bergner as a gym teacher, who he admired, and from that time on he knew exactly what he wanted to do in his life. Mike graduated from Greendale High School and attended UW-Lacrosse and received his degree in physical education and history. Later he went on for his masters degree and spent so many hours at the typewriter that his children's friends thought he was an author.
Mike was a physical education and health teacher as well as a coach for Franklin Public Schools. He loved what he did and was filled with stories that lasted a lifetime. He retired after 37 years and picked up his fishing pole and bought a boat. He loved the morning paper and doing crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and coloring. Most days you could find him working in his yard with his favorite dog, Griffin. He was a volunteer at Wehr Nature Center, a place he loved. He filled his need of teaching by becoming a Sunday school teacher.
Mike loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy (nee Honeyager), his children Erin (Chris) Minchk, Jeff (Ifat), and Steve (Megan) Krase. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Leah, Addie, Marin, Zia, Bennett, and Asa . He spending time with his grandkids and loved watching them play sports and hearing the stories of what they did each day. Mike is also survived by his sister, Deborah Greenwald who spent every Tuesday with him this past year when he transitioned to hospice. He is also survived by extended family Julie (Steve) Crowe, Jenny Steiner, Pat Honeyager and nieces and nephews, Amy, Chris (Holly), Phil (Rachel) Bartholomew, Lindsay and Noah Crowe, Megan (Sam) Potier, Matt Steiner and great niece and nephew, Kayla and Cody Bartholomew.
The family would like to thank the family of Greendale Community Church and Pastor David Gaeth for their love and support and the team of health care providers at Aurora at Home - especially Andrea, Megan, Bruce and Emily. Their care and friendship was something he looked forward to each week. Also a special thank you to Matt who spent hours with him each week, giving him the space to just be.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held at Greendale Community Church, 6015 Clover Lane, Greendale, on Saturday, May 18. Visitation will be from 9:30-noon, with service to follow. A luncheon will be served after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Greendale Community Church or Wehr Nature Center are appreciated.
